Dome Builders Panel Discussion
Filmed May 7, 2008

This was our largest audience to date with over 85 people in attendance!
The evening was initiated with a 20 minute talk by Babes in Belts founder, Diane Dondero, on the journey of creating a community non-profit and the vision she holds for its future.

Diane also spoke about an idea she and co-workers have been working on for "shelter raisings" to be structurally organized around advanced courses in ICF construction while maintaining homeowner privacy and consistant hellp from volunteers.
In speaking with Diane last week we learned that she and Nancy Popielarczyk had met with the Director of Site Development and Construction for the Tacoma Franchise of Habitat for Humanity (HFH) Gomer Roseman, Regional Construction Network Manager Jerry Fugich and the Director of Volunteer Services Cassandra Jarles to arrange for our "Babes" to participate in a Friday Women's Build with other HFH volunteers. The program will run from June to August this year. "The participants have to sign waivers and other documents in order to show up on the job," she said. "Habitat has supplied us with these documents, which fills in another piece of the volunteer process. We will be attending an orientation for the Women's Build on June 7 to get that organized and underway".
Mary McCann "The Bone Mama" (standing left) was our acting MC who introduced our builders seated from left to right; John Glennie, Wayne Wangler, Dan Page, Bob Hendricks, and moderator Diane Dondero.
Cameraman Andrew Wright (owner of Video 11 Productions) filmed the event that ran 20 minutes overtime. The quality of Andrew's work has evolved the production of Babes' DVDs to a professional level.
To waylay costs, he has given us the content copied to a DVD with a timer. With this "Bone Mama" and Diane will have the opportunity to do the first edit. This is the most time consumming aspect of the editing process, which will also reduce the time to fit a single DVD. From the rough cut Andrew and his wife Lisa Fitkin will do the final details, add credits, chapters and music.
Our thanks to Video 11 for their most generous contribution!
The final highlight of the evening was the announcement of our raffle winners. For the second time in a row Paula Wall (in red) won the grand prize! A 3 day emergency pack for two donated by QuakeReadyKit.com.
Second prize, a sample bag of Xocai "super antioxidant chocolates" donated by Marilyn Reardon went to a true chocolate lover, Louise St 'Onge (pictured right).
Sorry Paula, this was the only photo we had of you.
Thank you to our coordinators - Nancy Popielarczyk and Liz Nauman, and to all of our volunteers who not only paid their way, but lent their assistance to make this evening seminar another smooth running and enjoyable occasion.
And thank you community for supporting Babes in its effort to bring you timely and much needed information to assist each of you on your way to preparedness.
The Babes Team
